They are Gen 0 and require copious amounts of IR to see. The heavy battery pack counterweight is needed because of the weight of the goggles, if you don't have the counterweight be prepared for "face sag" every time you move about lol. The admittedly cool T-62 tanker helmet is uncomfortable, more so with the wiring and radio/ ear protection. Probably mount an IR laser on my AK rifle too. My plan, if I get one, is to modify like above and use for basic fun around my farm. Russian Spetznaz Blogspot - Converting PNW-57A There was a few Polish webpages, including a youtube video, that had someone mount a PNW-57 to an ACH replica. While researching the PNW-57a, I found this website which shows converting the system to run on smaller batteries. If it doesn't work, at least I would have a nice tanker helmet, which tend to be at least $50. However for the price, around $100, I figured it wouldn't be any worse than the cheap ones on Amazon and Wal-mart. Not expecting anywhere near the quality of the PVS-14 I've used in the Army. I realize they're early Soviet surplus and are likely Gen Zero and require some illumination to be effective. Was wondering if anyone had any experience firsthand with these devices. Browsing the web I've come across the Polish PNW-57A.
